Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

A weekly market is held at Shahanoormiya Darga Chowk. On Monday morning, farmers from nearby areas and local vendors occupied the road, causing severe inconvenience to commuters. Fed up with the daily chaos, residents who had stepped out for their morning walk suddenly staged a road blockade protest.

The protest led to long traffic jams in the area, prompting police to rush to the spot and pacify the agitators. Following the protest, mayor Sameer Rajurkar stated that vegetable vending on roads will not be allowed under any circumstances.

Although the municipal corporation had announced last week that all weekly markets in the city would be shut down, the decision has not been implemented. As usual, the market was set up on Monday morning at Shahanoormiya Darga Chowk. Vendors selling vegetables and other goods crowded the road leading from the Divisional Sports Complex towards the darga, resulting in heavy traffic congestion.

School buses, ambulances, company vehicles, and office-goers faced major delays. Frustrated by the recurring issue, citizens resorted to the protest. Police later intervened and cleared the road.

Mayor Rajurkar added that strict action will be taken from Tuesday, and ex-servicemen will be deployed at the spot to prevent roadside vending.
