17-year-old killed in late-night hit-and-run

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Reckless speeding claimed two young lives in separate incidents within a single day, leaving two families devastated.

In the first incident, Manoj Sadashiv Bhilang (22), who was critically injured after being run over by an out-of-control speeding car, succumbed to his injuries on the sixth day. In another tragic case, 17-year-old Umaid Pathan, who supported his education by selling vegetables, was killed in a late-night accident on Thursday. Manoj Bhilang, along with friends Aniket Dilip Nimbalkar, Avinash Nitawane, Vishal Bhandare and four others, had been working at a catering event at a lawn in Harsul since morning. After completing work around midnight, they began walking home as no vehicle was available. Near the Harsul octroi naka, a speeding car driven by Mangesh Govindrao Kolte (resident of Mayur Park) went out of control. The car rammed into the divider, flipped three times in the air, and hurtled nearly 30 feet towards the group of youths. Sensing the approaching vehicle, all eight tried to move aside. However, before Aniket and Manoj could escape, the car crashed onto them. Aniket died on the spot. Manoj was admitted to a private hospital and was on ventilator support, but he passed away on Friday.

A large number of youths gathered at the hospital on Friday.
