Thieves cut 25-year-old sandalwood tree from Anupam Housing Society, Shreyanagar and made off with its trunk in wee hours of December 13.

According to details, Pund family planted the tree 25 years ago. They went Mumbai a few days ago to meet relatives. Taking advantage of this, thieves cut the tree at 3 am on Sunday. Neighbours woke up to heard a sound after the tree fell.

The neighbours raised the alarm. But, thieves cut the 12-13 feet long tree in just 10 minutes and stole it. Police were informed about the incident immediately. The thieves disappeared from the spot until police reach there.

The Osmanpura Police station is just one and a half kilometres away from the spot. Thieves stole 13 feet long trunk but, police arrived at the spot late.

Police inspector of Osmanpura Police Station Dilip Tare aid that they contacted the house owner on receiving the information; however, the owner did not come to lodge the complaint as he was in Mumbai. He said that they have launched a search to arrest the thieves.
