Aurangabad, Jan 8:

Sensation prevailed in Chandmari locality (near Cantonment) after a transformer caught fire and disrupted the locality''s power supply for about four hours today at 1 pm.

The sparkings in the power supply cable led to the burst of the transformer of 25 KVA capacity, it is said. It caught fire as the oil started to come out of the transformer. The residents staying near the transformer got panicked and ran away at a safe distance. The billows of smoke emerged in the sky. The residents witnessed the running of fire flames from the transformer to the DP.

Acting upon the information, the MSEDCL personnel reached the spot. They closed down the AB Switch and doused the fire flames. The power supply was disrupted for around four hours. According to the assistant engineer of (MSEDCL''s Cantonment sub-division) Prakash Wahule, " The defunct transformer was replaced with another one at 4.30 pm, and the power supply was restored accordingly."
