Uncle dies of heart attack on nephew’s wedding day

A joyous wedding turned into mourning in Uttarwadi, Gangapur tehsil, after ambulance driver Kalyan Dagdu Kalapure (48) died of a heart attack early Wednesday morning, the day of his nephew’s wedding.

Kalapure had attended the haldi ceremony late Tuesday night and returned home alone, as his family had already gone to the wedding venue. When he did not respond till 9 am, relatives broke open the door and found him lying unconscious on his bed. He was declared dead by doctors at the sub-district hospital.

Kalapure, who worked as an ambulance driver on the Samruddhi Expressway, had helped save many lives by rushing patients to hospital in time. Ironically, he could not receive medical help when he suffered a cardiac arrest.

His last rites were performed in the afternoon. He is survived by his wife, two children and two brothers.
