Aurangabad,July 4:

“The gate of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu), which is a token of inspiration for reformation, will complete 50 years in December. The restoration and repair work will be carried to preserve it,” said Dr Pramod Yeole, vice-chancellor of Bamu.

Former resident engineer of the university Kuldipsingh Chhabda paid a good visit to the university on Friday.

Architect Shyam Patil was also present. Chhabda, who was a resident engineer in the Estate Department of Bamu, constructed the gate in justice five weeks during the tenure of the then VC Dr R P Nath.

The construction work had begun on November 16, 1971, while it was completed on December 10, 1971. A total of 25,000 were spent on its construction at that time.

The gate is a replica of Chaitya Dwar of Ajanta Caves. The name extension of the university as Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University took place on January 14, 1994.

Thousands of followers visit here on ‘Name Extension Day’ for the past 27 years. Chhabda, who is a nonagenarian, recalled the old memories. VC Dr Yeole assured him of maintaining piousness of gate.
