Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a private vehicle driver, on a charge of demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 to manage a police officer and grant relaxation to the person booked in a molestation case. The name of the accused is Akash Sunil Shinde (32, Jai Bhaimnagar) and ACB has been keeping vigilance on him for the last three months. Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the accused at City Chowk police station.

It so happened that a case of molestation was registered against a 40-year-old complainant at City Chowk police station in November 2024. Akash, who had access to the police station, contacted him and offered to help by speaking to the ‘saheb’ of the police station and demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 against the work. The complainant against whom the complaint was registered contacted the ACB superintendent of police (SP) Sandeep Atole and complained on November 25. Acting upon the orders of Atole, police inspector Shantilal Chavan verified the claim. In the meantime, Akash got wind of it, therefore, he did not accept the money, and fled away from the city, since then. ACB tried its best to trap him, but he got alert. At last, Chavan booked Akash for demanding a bribe and arrested him on Saturday.

Meanwhile, ACB has seized the accused’s mobile phone. The cops wanted to investigate how Akash got wind of the trap and on whose support he dared to demand the bribe. Further investigation is on.
