Aurangabad, June 28:

The doctors and paramedical staff had a tough time as the villagers rushed for getting the first dose of vaccine in Waluj Mahanagar, while on the other hand, the visitors complained of facing disappointment as the stock of vaccine got exhausted and lack of proper planning to implement the drive.

The vaccination drive has been started by the health section at Bajajnagar, Wadgaon, Cidco Waluj Mahanagar, Pandharpur, Daulatabad, Waluj, Ranjangaon, Jikthan etc. and surrounding villages. These centres witnessed a heavy rush of hundreds of visitors for the vaccine. Long queues are formed daily for the past many days. In the meantime, the rush got manifolded after the vaccination drive for citizens of age 18 to 44 years got started. It may be noted that fearing of the third wave of Coronavirus, the citizens are rushing to get the vaccine as early as possible. To avoid the rush, the doctors at Waluj primary health centre started to conduct RT-PCR test of each beneficiary first and then he/she is sent for vaccination at the centre.

Manhandling at Bajajnagar

The gathering of villagers got uncontrolled at Zilla Parishad school's vaccination centre in Bajajnagar. There were heated arguments and some of them exchanged blows to each other over standing in the queue. Later on, the responsible citizens and the health staff intervened and dispersed the mob. There was also pandemonium at Pandharpur vaccination centre also said an eye-witness.

Token system

The Daulatabad's PHC medical officer Dr Sangram Bamne started giving a token of the next day to avoid the rush of people. There is a need for 1,000 doses of vaccine, but the availability is 200-300. Hence there is chaos at the centre, said Dr Bamne.
