Ankeet Chavan has written to the the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) requesting them to lift the life ban imposed on him in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal. Chavan, along with Sreesanth and Ajit Chandila, were handed life bans by the BCCI disciplinary committee for their alleged involvement in the Indian Premier League spot-fixing scandal. However, in 2015, a Delhi trial court dropped all charges against the players for lack of evidence. "I have pleadingly requested the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to help and support me like it has always done in the past and take my application forward. The Ombudsman, in his order a month back (May 3), said that my punishment be reduced to seven years which ended in September 2020," Chavan was quoted as saying to Cricbuzz.

After a Supreme Court order, Sreesanth's ban was eventually revoked and punishment reduced to seven years. He has started playing for Kerala and even had enrolled himself in the IPL auction. While the MCA officials admitted that they have received a letter from Chavan, they were non-committal about the road ahead. One of the  MCA official said,  "We will discuss the matter but we will have to consult the legal department to see how we can help. The action was taken by the BCCI." Chavan shot to fame when he scalped nine wickets in an innings in a Ranji Trophy game against Punjab in 2012 and soon emerged as one of the top players in Mumbai, featuring in 18 first-class and 20 List A games. He was roped in by the Rajasthan Royals for the IPL. Chavan has played 18 First-Class matches and 20 List A games apart from 13 IPL fixtures.
