The Melbourne Cricket Ground on Thursday stated that at least one person who attented the ICC Women's T20 World Cup final has been tested positive for coronavirus. The authorities insisted that the risk of him infecting others was low. The match was attended by a crowd of 86,174. The person sat in section N42 (level two) of the MCC Members stand for the match, with 5.15pm to 11.30pm the listed time for potential exposure.

The MCG released an official statement addressing the issue and cleared that they are aware of the situation. “The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC), as ground managers of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), is aware that a person who attended the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Final at the MCG on Sunday March 8 has now been diagnosed with COVID-19. 

“The MCC is working closely with the Government and the DHHS and the advice is to operate business as usual, including hosting major events, however, are prepared should that change at any stage. The MCC is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for those visiting the MCG and as a precautionary measure have undertaken intensive cleaning of the affected section,” the statement further read. The final was won by Australia by a huge margin thereby clinching their fifth Women's T20 title.
