Singapore extends coronavirus lockdown till June 1st

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced on Tuesday that the partial lockdown imposed in the city-state to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus has been extended until June 1. Lee said the sharp upsurge in cases was due to aggressive testing of workers in the dorms, including those who are asymptomatic. The announcement after the country’s Ministry of Health preliminarily confirmed another 1,111 cases of the coronavirus disease, taking its total number of cases to 9,125 since the outbreak. 

Lee said the government will take more measures to care for workers that are being affected by the outbreak."To our migrant workers, let me emphasise again, we will care for you like we care for Singaporeans," he said.He thanked them for their cooperation and assured them that their health, welfare and livelihood will be taken care of, including making sure they get paid, can send money home, and helping them stay in touch with friends and family.
