US Election 2020: Joe Biden nears the 270 victory mark

Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden is leading with 264 electoral votes, while Trump has 214 in his bag. The magic figure is 270.

While Trump is on his Twitter ranting spree, Biden and Kamala urge people on the same social media platform to have faith in the process. "To make progress, we have to stop treating our opponents as enemies. We are not enemies," tweeted Joe Biden. He said that he was confident of victory. "This will not be my victory or our victory alone. It will be a victory for the American people, for our democracy, for America."

In order to win, 270 electoral votes are required. Those votes are divided up proportionately among the states. As it stands, there are six states still left uncalled, including major prizes such as Pennsylvania and key small state Nevada, as well as Georgia, North Carolina and Alaska.

Each candidate needs to secure a minimum of 270 out of 538 electoral votes to win the White House again.

Some 239 million people are eligible to vote this year.
