9 Dead, 32 Injured in Protests Near US Consulate in Pakistan's Karachi

At least nine people died on Sunday after clashes between protesters and Pakistani law enforcement personnel near the US Consulate in Karachi, Dawn News reported, citing the executive director of Civil Hospital Karachi's (CHK) trauma centre.

CHK's Dr Mohammad Sabir Memon told Dawn that nine men had died while 32 others were injured in the wake of protests near the consulate.

"We could hear the sounds of interceptions overhead and a few hours later there was an explosion very close to where we were holed up at Dubai airport," PV Sindhu narrated the scene where his coach narrowly escaped from a missile that struck "barely about 100 metres." 

"Experiencing something like this in such close quarters truly shakes you. You never expect these things to happen to you or anyone close to you, but sometimes situations are beyond your control. I feel incredibly blessed to have such a strong and united team around me. Everyone stayed calm, supported one another and showed real strength during a very frightening situation,” she said.

Three loud blasts in Dubai'

A CNN team in Dubai reported hearing three loud blasts on Sunday morning, followed by another series of explosions minutes later.

No injuries have been reported, and it remains unclear whether any areas were directly hit by incoming fire.

Residents said thick plumes of black smoke were visible over the Jebel Ali port area from overnight strikes.

Authorities confirmed that debris from an aerial interception over Dubai’s Business Bay sparked a fire at one of the berths at Jebel Ali Port.
