According to health experts, it is very important to get enough sleep to stay mentally, physically, and emotionally healthy. But most people are spending more time than necessary on the phone, which is affecting their health. Did you know the fact that women need more sleep than men. But why is this so and how much sleep? Let's find out. A few years ago, a report of 'A Society for Women's Health Research' was published in the National Library of Medicine. It stated that the hours of sleep are different for women and men. Meaning, both need different hours to sleep. According to studies by the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) and Duke University, women spend more mental energy than men throughout the day, due to which their brain needs more recovery time, i.e., sleep.

According to a report in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, women's brains are more complex, and they have the ability to do multiple tasks at a time (multitasking). This means that their brain works harder and needs more rest, i.e., sleep to repair properly.

Why women need more sleep than men?

1. Deep sleep

Women sleep deeper than men, due to which their body and brain recharge quickly, but if their sleep is interrupted repeatedly, it has a greater impact.

2. Duration and quality of sleep

Women need an average of 7.5 to 9 hours of sleep, while 7–8 hours are considered sufficient for men. Apart from this, women take more REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep, which is necessary for dreaming and memory boosting.

3. Sleep disorder

Women have 40% more problems of insomnia than men. The reason for this can be hormonal changes, stress, pregnancy, and menstrual cycle.

Why do women need more sleep?

1. Multitasking consumes extra energy

Women's brain processes many things simultaneously, be it home, office, or social life. This extra mental stress makes their brain more tired, and it needs more sleep for recovery. According to a study, people who think more and do creative work need more sleep.

2. Hormonal changes and menstrual cycle

There are hormonal fluctuations in women's body due to menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and menopause, due to which the need for sleep also keeps changing.

3. Emotional and psychological factors

Women are more emotionally sensitive, due to which their sleep is affected due to stress and anxiety. Good sleep helps to detox and relax their brain in a better way.
