Sankashti Chaturthi March 2025: Date, Shubh Muhurat, Puja Vidhi, Significance and Moonrise Timings
Marathi year will end soon, and the holy month of Phalgun is about to begin. This year's start looks promising, suggesting a happy and successful Hindu New Year. Before the year ends, many people will observe fast. And one the most important fast that falls in march is Sankashti Chaturthi.
Lord Ganesha, a deity revered for his accessibility and benevolent nature, resides within us. He is the remover of obstacles and bestower of joy. Devotees observe the Sankashti Chaturthi fast each month to deepen their devotion, considering it the most significant Ganesh fast. Chanting Ganesha's names, reciting hymns, and repeating mantras on this occasion are believed to alleviate difficulties.
The falgun Sankashti Chaturthi falls on Monday, March 17, 2025.
Begins: Monday, March 17, 2025, at 7:32 PM.
Ends: Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 10:07 PM.
While traditionally sunrise determines the date, the importance of moonrise dictates that Sankashti Chaturthi will be observed on Monday, March 17, 2025. Ganesha, the god of wisdom and inspiration, is universally accessible.
Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat Puja Rituals:
The Sankashti Chaturthi fast, a Kamyavrata observed in India for millennia, emphasizes the importance of moon sighting. Devotees fast throughout the day and worship Lord Ganesha with Shodashopachar or Panchopachar, anointing the idol with pure water. Recite Atharvashirsha 21 times, or chant "Om Gan Ganapataye Namah" 108 times during the abhishek. Offer flowers, incense, lamps, and neivedya while reciting Ganesha's name.
Distribute the prasad. At night, await moonrise, lighting incense and lamps to honor Lord Ganesha. Offer Arghya to the moon, then break the fast by offering jasmine flowers and Durva as an aarti to Lord Ganesha. Laddus and Modaks, Ganesha's favored foods, are offered.
