A robbery attempt at a jewellery store in Maharashtra's Palghar district was foiled on Thursday night when the suspects opened fire and fled the scene after drawing the attention of local residents. The incident occurred near Mamta Jewellers in the Kelwa Road area around 8 pm, according to an official report. The group of individuals arrived at the jewellery shop and began exhibiting suspicious behaviour, which prompted local residents to take notice and gather around the store. As the crowd increased, the robbers, realizing they had been spotted, panicked and fired shots into the air. After firing the shots, the suspects quickly fled the scene before law enforcement could respond. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident, as confirmed by the official. Local authorities have launched a thorough investigation to track down the suspects, who managed to escape before the police could intervene.
A team of investigators has been deployed to comb the area for any clues that could lead to the identification of the culprits. As part of their investigation, police are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity and questioning witnesses who were present during the event. They are also increasing patrols in and around the area to ensure the safety of residents and businesses in the region. Last month, police arrested five persons in connection with the robbery of gold ornaments worth Rs 71 lakh from a jewellery shop in Maharashtra’s Palghar district.Cops have recovered valuables worth Rs 23.39 lakh from the gang, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-II, Vasai) Poornima Chougule-Shringi. Some of its members face multiple cases. A group of armed men had barged into a jewellery shop in the Vasai area on January 10 and taken away 949.55 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 71 lakh after threatening the owner at gunpoint and assaulting him. The official said police went through footage from nearly 600 CCTV cameras and worked on several inputs to track down two accused, identified as Anuj Gangaram Chowgule (36) and Royal, alias Roy Edward Sequeira (46). Subsequently, two more accused were taken into custody from Satara.
