Khande supporter of Congress and former MLA of Alibag-Uran constituency Madhukar Thakur has passed away on his birthday. He had been ill for the last 3 to 4 years. Madhukar Thakur, 74, breathed his last at around 5 am. Madhukar Thackeray will be cremated at Satirje village in Alibag taluka at 2 pm today.

Madhukar Thakur started his political career from the post of Sarpanch of Zirad Gram Panchayat. From there he became MLA of Zilla Parishad and then of Alibag-Uran constituency from 2004 to 2009. Madhukar Thakur had defeated the then Minister of State for PWP Meenakshi Patil in 2004. 

Madhukar Thakur, who is known as a loyal Congress worker, also served as the Vice President of Raigad District Congress. Apart from this, he was also honored by the Congress as a special invited member of the Pradesh Congress. He had close ties with the then Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, former Chief Ministers Sushilkumar Shinde, Ashok Chavan, Prithviraj Chavan and Narayan Rane.
