Heavy rainfall predicted till July 15 in these Maharashtra's districts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued red and orange alerts for Mumbai and adjoining districts. An Orange alert has been issued till July 15 in Mumbai, Palghar, Thane and Raigad districts of Maharashtra.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted at isolated places for the four days from July 12 to July 15. Other Maharashtra's districts like Raigad, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg will receive heavy rainfall until July 15.
“Under the influence of the formation of a low-pressure area over west-central & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts, an east-west shear zone along 19 deg N and strengthening of westerlies, Maharashtra is very likely to experience an active rainfall spell during the week,” said IMD bulletin.
It may be noted that the total rainfall recorded since June 1 by the Colaba observatory is 814.8 mm while the Santacruz observatory recorded it to be 1106.8 mm. In the past 24 hours, ending at 8.30 am today, Mumbai, Thane, and adjoining districts recorded moderate to near heavy rains, said KS Hosalikar, a senior official of IMD.
