A shocking case of violence has emerged from Bhusawal, Jalgaon, where a newly married couple was allegedly attacked by the woman’s relatives just a day after registering their marriage at the police station. According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ashok Nakhate, the incident took place on March 20, when a group of family members confronted the couple, leading to a brutal assault that has now sparked a police investigation. Authorities have since taken swift action, registering a serious case and arresting multiple accused, while efforts are underway to trace those still absconding.

ASP Ashok Nakhate says, "An incident occurred after a couple registered their marriage at Bhusawal Police Station on March 19. On March 20, the woman's relatives, including her maternal aunt, her aunt's husband, and other family members, arrived at the man's maternal uncle's house. They assaulted both the man and the woman, stripping the man of his clothes, beating him near his uncle's house, and then taking him to his village, where they continued the assault. The police were alerted and arrived at the scene. The man had already been taken to the hospital by his family. CCTV footage confirmed the assault, leading to the registration of an FIR under BNS 109 (attempt to murder) against the woman's relatives. Five accused were arrested the same night, while three, including the woman's maternal aunt, her aunt's husband, and their son, remain at large. The exact reasons for the assault are yet to be fully understood, pending further information from the accused. The man has been discharged from the hospital and is now stable."

Police lodged an FIR based on the victim's complaints for offences punishable under sections 109 (attempt to murder), 115(2) [voluntarily causing hurt], 118(2) [voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means], and 138 (abduction), among other sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The victim stated that he and his wife belonged to the same community. They stayed in adjacent villages and were dating each other for 18 months before they got married on March 18.

Both of them left their homes on March 18 and got married at Panchavati in Nashik. After tying the knot, they informed the Bhusawal police about their marriage. The police officials then informed the couple's eloping to the woman's relatives. After the family was informed about it, nobody went to the police station. The newlyweds then went to the victim's uncle's house in Bhusawal. A group of 15 people, including the victim's in-laws, stormed inside the house, and after some time they assaulted the couple, the police said. The FIR states that the victim was assaulted between 11:30 am and 12 noon on March 20.
