Maharashtra: Car Carrying 6 Animals Overturns in Bhandara, Illegal Smuggling Suspected
A shocking case of animal smuggling has came to light were six live animals discovered crammed inside a car following a late-night accident near Bothli village in Maharashtra’s Bhandara district. This illicit activity was exposed after the car met with an accident shortly after midnight. The accident occurred during the late hours of the night between April 24 and 25, near Bothli village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Warthi police station on the Tumsar-Bhandara route. The speeding car overturned near the village.
When villagers noticed the accident in the early hours of the morning and rushed to the scene to offer assistance, they were stunned to discover six animals ruthlessly crammed inside the car. One of the cows had perished in the crash. Villagers reported that the driver lost control of the vehicle near Bothli village. The car veered off the main road onto Panjra Road and overturned. The driver immediately fled the scene.
Responding to the early morning accident, villagers rushed to help, only to discover the vehicle was filled with animals instead of people. They alerted the police, who arrived in the morning. With the villagers' help, the police used ropes to right the car and extract the animals. One animal was found dead at the scene.
Demand to Curb Cattle Smuggling
Noting that cattle smugglers employ various routes to carry out their illicit activities, the villagers have demanded that strict inspections be conducted on all vehicles traveling along these routes and that night patrols be intensified to curb such crimes.
