Amid rising concerns over LPG availability due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) on Tuesday assured customers that its supply of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) will remain steady and uninterrupted. In a formal statement, the company highlighted its preparedness to maintain continuous fuel distribution across its service regions in Maharashtra and Karnataka. It emphasized that its operations are aligned with the Natural Gas Supply Regulation Order 2026, which prioritises domestic PNG and CNG usage. MGL currently serves key areas including Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Mira-Bhayander, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and parts of Karnataka such as Chitradurga and Davanagere.

Supply concerns have intensified after Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global channel for oil and gas transportation. The move came in response to coordinated strikes involving the United States and Israel, raising fears of disruptions in energy supply chains. Against this backdrop, MGL has introduced several initiatives to promote PNG usage among domestic consumers. These include offering free gas worth Rs 500 for new connections registered between March 16 and April 30, 2026, a Rs 1,000 bill benefit for societies with more than 60 per cent PNG adoption, and a Rs 500 discount on online registrations. The company has also waived minimum charges during inactive periods and is planning to eliminate upfront registration fees while providing flexible payment options.

In addition to residential benefits, MGL has extended incentives to commercial users to encourage a shift towards cleaner fuel. The company has removed registration charges for businesses and will bear the cost of developing downstream infrastructure, making the transition to PNG more accessible and cost-effective. Alongside these initiatives, MGL issued a public advisory urging customers to remain cautious against fraudulent activities. It advised people not to click on unknown links, avoid downloading suspicious applications, and never share OTPs or banking details. Customers were also urged to rely only on verified communication channels provided by the company to prevent cyber fraud.

MGL Managing Director Ashu Shinghal stated that the organisation remains committed to expanding natural gas access and supporting the shift towards cleaner energy solutions. He reaffirmed that the company is focused on strengthening its infrastructure and enhancing customer engagement to ensure reliable service delivery. According to the official statement, MGL will continue investing in its network to maintain consistent supply while encouraging more consumers and businesses to adopt environmentally friendly fuel alternatives across its operational regions.
