Maharashtra: MSRTC to Roll Out National Common Mobility Card for Bus Travel Across State

Maharashtra is rapidly moving towards digital ticketing. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) announced that they are bringing in a National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) system, reported Mid Day. This system will be implemented soon, and it will be mandatory for passengers availing travel concessions. This announcement was made by Maharashtra Transport Minister and ST Corporation Chairman Pratap Sarnaik. The officials have termed this move a historic decision. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik stated that this initiative aims to remove cash transactions and ensure convenient services to passengers.

Sarnaik said, "This is not just a technical upgrade but a step towards digitally strengthening passengers' trust. Accurate recording of concessions, transparent reimbursement and cashless transactions will now be integrated into a single card."

Statewide registration drive will commence soon at all the ST depots.

The NCMC card will be distributed across multiple beneficiary groups. Students from schools and technical institutions will receive cards linked to their ‘Saral’ number. Amrut Senior Citizens, general senior citizens, and women passengers will be issued Aadhaar-linked cards. Persons with disabilities will be provided cards integrated with special features connected to their UDID number. Freedom fighters, accredited journalists, and award recipients will receive their cards through divisional headquarters depots.

Key Features of the NCMC Card

• Cost: The card is priced at Rs 199 (inclusive of GST). Existing smart card holders can upgrade to the NCMC card for Rs 149 by surrendering their old card.

• Wallet Limit: A minimum balance of Rs 100 must be maintained. Recharges can be made in multiples of Rs 50.

• Recharge Options: The card can be recharged through ETIM machines, the official website, mobile application, or authorised agents.

• Extensive Registration Network: Over 3,000 authorised agents have been appointed, particularly to assist senior citizens and women.

• On-site Registration: Registration facilities will be available at bus stands, especially benefiting passengers in rural areas.

Officials said the initiative marks a major shift from the traditional ticketing system to a fully digital and cashless framework. With the NCMC card, passengers will no longer need to carry change or maintain physical concession documents.

The State Transport Corporation added that the move is expected to make travel more convenient, secure, and transparent across Maharashtra’s extensive bus network.
