Another gold robbery case was reported from Umbraj, Karad, resulting in ₹25 lakh worth of jewellery and cash being stolen from a jeweller. On Monday morning around 10 am, Ganesh Yadav, owner of Shri Vagadevi Jewellers, arrived at his shop on a motorcycle, parking it in an adjacent shed with a bag of ornaments and cash. He found an unknown substance in the keyhole, preventing him from opening the shutter, which created a distraction. Two thieves on a motorcycle approached, with one swiftly grabbing the bag from Yadav's motorcycle before they sped away in a "Dhoomstyle" escape.
The stolen bag contained 9 tolas of gold, 5 kg 868 grams of silver, and ₹2.40 lakh in cash, totaling approximately ₹25 lakh. A nearby woman witnessed the theft, alerted Yadav, who attempted to chase the suspects, but they had already vanished.
Yadav immediately informed the Umbraj Police, who, along with the local crime branch from Satara and a dog squad, conducted a spot inspection. CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding routes has been collected to identify the suspects. Police suspect the accused conducted surveillance for two to three days prior to the crime, indicating more than two individuals were involved in the heist.
A case has been registered at the Umbraj Police Station, and investigations are ongoing to trace and arrest the suspects.
