The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday, May 13 issued a forecast and warned of heatwave conditions in several districts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada over the next few days, while parts of southern Maharashtra are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds and light to moderate rainfall.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Mumbai, heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail in isolated pockets of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada on May 13 and 14, 2026. Warm nights are also expected in parts of North Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada.
IMD in its weather forecast stated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rain and gusty winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are likely at isolated places in South Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada.

On Tuesday, severe heatwave conditions prevailed in isolated pockets of South Gujarat, while warm night conditions were reported in parts of North Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. Light rainfall was recorded at isolated places in South Konkan-Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada.
Jalgaon recorded the highest maximum temperature in the region at 45.5 degrees Celsius. Strong winds were also reported from several districts, including Nashik, Pune, Solapur, Beed and Hingoli.
Mumbai Weather Update
For Mumbai, the weather department has forecast mainly clear skies over the next 48 hours. The city and suburbs are likely to experience hot and humid conditions, with maximum temperatures around 35 degrees Celsius and minimum temperatures around 26 to 28 degrees Celsius.
Rainfall in These Districts
The IMD has also predicted isolated rainfall and thundershowers in parts of Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur, Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv over the coming days. Some areas in Vidarbha, including Akola, Amravati and Wardha, may witness thunderstorms accompanied by hail and gusty winds reaching up to 50 to 60 kmph.
IMD Warning
The weather office has advised people to avoid prolonged exposure to heat, stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours. Farmers have also been advised to complete harvesting of mature crops and store produce safely due to the possibility of unseasonal rain and thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, the IMD said a well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal continues to persist and may influence weather conditions in parts of the region over the coming days.
