Maharashtra Weather Update: Thunderstorms, Rain and Hail Likely from March 30 To April 4 Across Several Regions
The India Meteorological Department has forecast a fresh phase of cloudy conditions and thunderstorms across parts of Maharashtra starting March 30, with rainfall expected in multiple regions. Areas such as Khandesh, Marathwada, West Vidarbha, and sections of central Maharashtra’s ghat belt are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds, rainfall, and isolated hailstorms. Other parts of Vidarbha may also witness changing weather patterns. According to officials, while the intensity of rainfall may slightly decrease on March 31, unstable atmospheric conditions and scattered thunderstorm activity are expected to persist in the affected areas.
The weather department further stated that rainfall activity is likely to pick up again between April 1 and April 4. During this period, several regions including central Maharashtra, Khandesh, Marathwada, and Vidarbha may see increased cloud cover, afternoon thunderstorms, and chances of hailstorms in isolated locations. Authorities have indicated that this renewed spell of weather disturbance could bring fluctuating conditions, with intermittent rain and strong winds affecting daily routines. Residents in these areas have been advised to stay alert as sudden weather changes, including lightning and stormy conditions, may occur during this time frame.
In view of the changing weather, an advisory has been issued for farmers across parts of the state. The agriculture department has urged cultivators to carefully plan their farming activities during this period of uncertainty. With rabi crop harvesting currently underway, farmers have been specifically advised to protect their produce from potential damage. They have been encouraged to store harvested crops in secure locations or keep them properly covered to avoid losses caused by rain, hail, and strong winds, which may impact both yield quality and quantity during this crucial harvesting phase.
Authorities have also issued safety guidelines for the general public amid the forecast of thunderstorms and lightning. Citizens have been cautioned to avoid taking shelter under trees or standing near tin sheds, electric poles, transformers, and power lines during adverse weather conditions. Such locations pose a higher risk during lightning strikes and strong winds. People are advised to remain indoors during intense weather activity and follow official updates to minimize risks. These precautionary measures aim to reduce accidents and ensure public safety during the expected spell of unstable weather across the state.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra has been experiencing notably warm conditions throughout March, with temperatures rising above normal levels in several regions. According to the latest weather bulletin, many districts recorded high daytime temperatures on March 28. Solapur emerged as one of the hottest locations with a maximum temperature of 40.4 degrees Celsius. Jalgaon and Jeur followed closely at 39.5 degrees Celsius each, while Parbhani also recorded 39.5 degrees Celsius. Other cities including Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, and Satara reported temperatures ranging between 38 and 38.2 degrees Celsius, indicating a widespread increase in heat levels.
Humidity levels across the state have shown considerable variation, with coastal and some interior regions experiencing higher moisture levels during the morning hours. In contrast, parts of Marathwada have reported relatively dry conditions. Overall, the data reflects a consistent rise in temperatures across Maharashtra, with several districts witnessing heat levels above seasonal averages. These conditions signal the gradual intensification of summer, even as intermittent spells of rain and thunderstorms are expected to temporarily influence weather patterns in the coming days.
