Mumbai-Pune Expressway Accident: Three people were killed and five others injured after a container truck rammed into multiple vehicles on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. The accident occurred near the Adoshi tunnel stretch in the Bhor Ghat section around 9:30 a.m., when the driver of the container lost control while heading from Pune toward Mumbai.
According to the reports, the speeding container (MH-43 CD-3265), driven by Avdhesh Yadav, went out of control on a downhill slope near the Khopoli exit and began crashing into vehicles ahead. The truck hit at least four vehicles in succession before overturning on the left side and landing on a car. The impact was severe, trapping the occupants inside the car. Rescue teams later pulled out the injured and rushed them to a nearby hospital, where three victims were declared dead before treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Ambadas Petare, a resident of Sinhagad Road in Pune; Shrikant Jadhav, 63, from Pune; and Pramod Pawar, also from Pune. Five injured persons, including the container driver, are undergoing treatment.
Emergency response teams, including IRB patrol units, highway traffic police, Khopoli police, Delta Force, Maharashtra Security Force and local volunteer groups, carried out rescue operations at the site.
Traffic on the expressway was briefly disrupted following the accident but was later restored by police.
A case has been registered against the container driver at Khopoli police station, and further investigation is underway.
