Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has raised concerns over the conflicting reports on the water quality of the Ganga during the recently concluded Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. Reacting to the latest Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) report, which stated that the water was fit for bathing, Raut questioned the credibility of previous reports and called for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.

"An SIT should be formed to check which report is right. Who came up with the earlier report and why? Is dirty politics going on within their party?" Raut said, suggesting a possible political angle behind the differing assessments.

The CPCB submitted its latest findings to the National Green Tribunal (NGT), asserting that statistical analysis confirmed the water quality was suitable for bathing during the religious gathering. However, earlier concerns had been raised about pollution levels in the river, sparking debate over environmental management during the massive pilgrimage.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has sparked a political debate with his recent remarks on river cleanliness and religious faith. Speaking at an event in Chinchwad, Thackeray recalled an incident after his return from the Kumbh Mela, where Bala Nandgaonkar offered him water from a Kamandalu and asked if he would drink it, on which he said no. Not a single river in the country is clean, yet we call the river Mother. Does faith have any meaning or not?".
