Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission on Tuesday has sent notice to Cooper Hospital & Mumbai Police for allowing Rhea Chakraborty to enter the mortuary of Cooper Hospital & sought details of the regulation following which she was allowed.

MA Sayeed, MSHRC chief said, “I saw several video clips of Rhea Chakraborty visiting the mortuary at Cooper. I have asked the registrar of SHRC’s legal wing to check the provisions. We don’t know how and under what circumstances the permission to visit the mortuary was given. It should not have been so.”

“I am treating the matter as urgent and have listed it for August 31,” Sayeed said.

Rajput died on June 14 when Rhea visited the morgue at Cooper. A lot of media photographers clicked her while she was leaving along with three other persons.

As per rules only immediate family members of the dead are allowed inside the mortuary. One SHRC officer said, “We are investigating how she gained entry when she isn’t related to the deceased. We will have hearings and legal consequences will follow. The police will also have to face the consequences.”

A senior officer in the BMC said they have not received any notice from the SHRC. Even the police hadn’t received the notice at the time of going to press.
