A shocking revelation has emerged in the firing incident on Sameer Asif Khan in Mumbai’s Byculla area, with investigators suspecting that revenge over alleged humiliation and a financial dispute were the primary motives behind the attack. The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested two accused in connection with the case, triggering fresh concerns over underworld-linked criminal activities in the city.

According to police sources, complainant Sameer Asif Khan and the alleged mastermind were involved in financial dealings related to the property business. Around two months ago, the main accused had reportedly approached Sameer to recover pending dues. However, the accused allegedly felt insulted during the interaction, which later led to the conspiracy to attack Sameer.

Investigators revealed that the two arrested accused were working for the main conspirator and had been assigned the task of eliminating Sameer. The accused were allegedly provided with a pistol and instructed to monitor Sameer’s movements.

Police said that on Tuesday, as soon as Sameer stepped out of his house, the accused began पीछा following him on a motorcycle. When Sameer stopped near Meenakshi Apartment in the Dockyard Road area, the assailants allegedly opened fire at him.

According to the FIR registered at Byculla Police Station, the incident took place at around 5:45 pm on May 12, 2026. Sameer sustained injuries in the firing and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

A case has been registered under sections 109, 308, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant sections of the Maharashtra Police Act and the Arms Act.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Crime Branch had launched a parallel probe into the incident. With the help of CCTV footage, technical surveillance, and informers, police traced the accused. During the investigation, the names of Sadik Sheikh Liaqat Sheikh and Zeeshan Anwar Sheikh surfaced.

Acting on a tip-off that the accused were hiding near the Mahim Dargah area, teams of Crime Branch Unit 3 and Unit 2 laid a trap and arrested both accused around midnight.

Police have seized the pistol used in the firing, the motorcycle used in the crime, and mobile phones from the accused. Sources said that during preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed that the attack was carried out over anger related to an alleged dispute regarding profit sharing in work dealings.

Police sources further stated that Sameer is the son of Asif Dadhi, who was earlier linked to the D-Company network. In 2007, Asif Dadhi himself had reportedly survived a firing attack allegedly carried out by individuals associated with the Rajan gang.

Considering the possible underworld connections, Mumbai Police are treating the case with utmost seriousness, and further investigation is underway.
