Dharavi Revamp: "Ineligible Tenants Will Get Accommodation," Says Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis

The reconstruction of Dharavi will be the first project to provide rental housing to ineligible tenants, with the tenement being transferred into the occupant's name after 12 years.

Speaking to the state Legislative Assembly on March 25, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis promised that the project would accommodate all. It will be the first project to include accommodations for ineligible individuals in the reconstruction. Tenements that are ineligible will be rented for twelve years. The accommodation would be transferred in the occupant's name when this 12-year term is up, Fadnavis continued.

Houses in slums before 2001 would be provided for free, while those built between 2001 and 2011 will be provided at construction cost. The project is not available for tenements after 2011.

The anticipated cost of the Dharavi reconstruction is well around Rs 2 lakh crore, and it entails rebuilding 100 million square feet. The housing development is expected to house over 1.25 lakh tenements, including both residential and commercial units.
