‘Dragged Half-Naked, Slapped Multiple Times’: Youth Assaulted for Abusive Posts on Thackeray Brothers; Viral Video Sparks Outrage

A shocking incident from Nalasopara has sparked public anger after a young man was allegedly assaulted and publicly humiliated by workers of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Shiv Sena (UBT). The violence reportedly followed abusive posts made by the youth against senior political leaders on social media platforms. A video showing the man being beaten, partially stripped, and dragged along the road has gone viral, drawing sharp reactions online. The visuals have disturbed many viewers and intensified debates around vigilantism, online speech, and political intolerance in the state.

As per available details, the youth has been identified as Suraj Mahendra Shirke. Over the past few days, he allegedly shared vulgar, offensive, and derogatory remarks on Facebook and other social networking platforms. These posts were reportedly directed at prominent leaders, including Raj Thackeray, Uddhav Thackeray, and Aditya Thackeray. Party supporters claimed the comments crossed all limits of decency and amounted to a personal attack on leaders they deeply respect. The content allegedly questioned the leaders’ credibility while using abusive and inflammatory language.

The situation escalated after MNS sub-divisional president Kiran Nakashe and other party workers reportedly received information about Shirke’s whereabouts in the Nalasopara area. Acting on this tip-off, a group of workers allegedly tracked him down and assaulted him. The violence did not stop there, as the youth was reportedly partially stripped and dragged on the road for nearly one-and-a-half kilometres. The act of public humiliation, captured on video, has since triggered widespread condemnation and concern over the use of brute force as punishment.

Following the incident, Kiran Nakashe shared a post on social media appearing to justify the actions of the party workers. In his statement, he warned that anyone using obscene or abusive language against political leaders revered by party supporters would have to face serious consequences. His remarks suggested that such actions were meant to serve as a warning, irrespective of the individual’s identity or background. The statement further fueled criticism, with many questioning the endorsement of violence as a response to online provocation.

The incident briefly created a tense atmosphere in parts of Nalasopara, prompting increased police deployment to avoid any further unrest. While the video continues to circulate online, it has raised serious concerns about mob justice, limits of political loyalty, and freedom of expression on digital platforms. Questions are also being raised about law enforcement’s responsibility in handling such cases through legal channels rather than allowing violent reprisals. The episode has once again highlighted the fragile balance between dissent, accountability, and rule of law.
