Shivaji Nagar Police have registered an FIR against 15 people, including the husbands of former and current corporators from Ward No. 134, under serious charges. Police have arrested nine people in connection with the case, including the husband of the sitting AIMIM corporator, Ateeq Khan, his brother Aqeel, and a woman. On the other hand, Fahad Azmi, husband of a former Samajwadi Party corporator, has also been arrested.

Senior Police Inspector Anagha Satavse said that cases have been registered against both groups on charges of rioting, criminal intimidation, trespassing, and using abusive language towards women. Two police teams have been formed to trace the other absconding accused. The arrested persons from both sides will be produced before the court today (Tuesday), and further investigation is underway.

According to police sources, an objectionable comment was posted on Facebook against the wife of Fahad Azmi. Fahad suspected that the comment had been made by Aqeel, the brother of Ateeq Khan. Following this, Fahad allegedly went to Ateeq’s house along with some of his associates. However, Ateeq and his brother were not present at the time. It is alleged that Fahad and his associates threatened the women in the house and created a ruckus by vandalising the office there.

When Ateeq came to know about the incident, he reportedly went to Fahad’s house along with his brother and several others. It is alleged that they vandalised Fahad’s office and house and also tore posters of his political party.

After receiving information about the incident, police detained members of both groups. Later, based on their statements against each other, they were formally arrested and further legal action was initiated.

Notably, clashes between workers of both parties had also occurred several times during the municipal election period, and both sides had been making continuous allegations against each other. However, many people have expressed anger that the political rivalry has now stooped to such a low level, involving remarks about a woman’s character.
