Mumbai Fire: Blaze Erupts in Sion Hospital X-Ray Room, No Injuries Reported

A fire broke out in the X-ray department of Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital, commonly known as Sion Hospital, around 11:57 am on March 31, according to civic authorities. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident. Hospital dean Dr. Pramod Ingale stated that the blaze was triggered by an explosion in the air conditioning unit installed in the department. Soon after the incident, thick smoke filled the area, leading to momentary panic among patients and hospital staff. Despite the alarming situation, authorities managed to keep the situation under control without any casualties or major disruptions.

According to Dr. Ingale, the fire remained limited to the air conditioning unit within the X-ray section and did not spread further. The blast in the AC unit led to heavy smoke rising upward, which caused concern among those present at the facility. However, he reassured that no individuals were harmed during the incident. While there was no damage to any medical equipment, minor structural damage was reported within the affected area. As a precautionary measure, all patients were immediately shifted to a safer location inside the hospital premises to ensure their safety and avoid any risk.

Emergency response teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade quickly reached the hospital after receiving information about the fire. Firefighters acted promptly and succeeded in dousing the flames, preventing the situation from escalating further. Officials confirmed that the fire was completely extinguished within a short time. Authorities are continuing to assess the situation, and additional details regarding the incident are expected to be released after further investigation.
