Mumbai Fire: Cylinder Blast Triggers Massive Blaze at Dighe Chawl in Santacruz, 4 Injured
Mumbai: A major fire broke out in a room of a chawal located near Vakola Bridge area in Santacruz (East). This incident occurred on Thursday, February 19, 2026 evening around 6:52 pm . According to the reports the blaze erupted after the domestic gas cylinder exploded in room at Dighe Chawl. In this incident, four people suffered serious burn injuries and are currently receiving treatment. Sudden fire caused panic situation among locals.
According to Dr. Jadhav (AMO, V N Desai Hosp) in this incident total 4 injured reported out of which 3 sent to Sion hospital with our Doctors and ambulance. Victims identified as Javed Abdul shiakh (M/30 yrs – 55% to 60% burn – Transfered to Sion hosp), Avantika Ajay Gawade (F/45 yrs- 30% burn- Transferred to Sion hosp), Sumati Ramesh Gawade (F/65 yrs- 35%-40% burn-Transferred Sion hosp), Yash Gawade, (M/15 yrs – 10%-12% burn- Admitted condition stable.)
Following the fire Mumbai Fire Brigade team reached out to the spot and douse of the fire within an hour. Fortunately no injuries were reported in this incident. Earlier, minor fire broke out at Sterling Building at Kureshi Nagar on Andheri-Kurla Road in Kurla (East) on Tuesday February 17, 2026 morning. Fortunately confirmed that the blaze was confined to garbage and did not spread to nearby structures.

As per the Mumbai fire brigade reports incident was reported at 7:37 am and Firefighters, along with police personnel and ward staff, were immediately mobilised to the spot. No injuries were reported in the incident.
