Mumbai Fire: Late-Night Blaze at Residential Building in Kandivali Sparks Panic Among Residents; No Injuries Reported

A fire broke out late on Wednesday night in a residential building at Lokhandwala Township in Kandivali East, triggering panic among residents. According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), the incident was reported at around 11.34 pm on January 28. The blaze was confined to a closed room on the first floor of a ground-plus-seven-storey building. Thick smoke was seen billowing from one of the flats, alarming occupants and forcing several residents to rush out of their homes as a precautionary measure. The sudden spread of smoke created a tense situation within the housing complex.

Soon after receiving the alert, fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot along with teams from the local police, the 108 ambulance service and ward staff. Firefighters brought the blaze under control within about 20 minutes, and it was fully extinguished by 11.57 pm, officials said. No injuries were reported in the incident. However, residents alleged that illegal autorickshaw parking inside the complex delayed the entry of fire engines, hampering firefighting efforts. They claimed repeated complaints about unauthorised parking had yielded no action. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

In a similar incident reported on January 22, a fire broke out in a flat in Mumbai’s Chembur Camp area in the evening, causing panic in the densely populated locality of the eastern suburb. The incident prompted a swift response from the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), which rushed fire engines to the spot soon after receiving the alert. A video circulating on social media showed the flat completely engulfed in flames, with a fire brigade vehicle arriving and firefighters stepping out to begin dousing the blaze. While the fire created an atmosphere of fear among local residents, initial reports confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were recorded in the incident.
