Mumbai Honey-Trap Case: Elderly Businessman Extorted of ₹2.40 Crore in Worli; 11 Booked
A shocking case of extortion has come to light from Mumbai’s Worli area, where an elderly businessman was allegedly honey-trapped and extorted of ₹2.40 crore by a group of 11 accused, including eight women. The accused allegedly lured the victim on the pretext of providing medical assistance and later threatened to frame him in a molestation case, send him to jail and kill him if he failed to pay the demanded amount.
Based on the complaint filed by the victim, Worli Police have registered a case against all 11 accused and launched a manhunt to trace them. According to police, the accused had also demanded an additional ₹1.5 crore from the businessman. However, after being encouraged by one of his acquaintances, the victim approached the police and lodged a formal complaint. Multiple teams have been formed to track down the accused.
Police Official said that the extortion took place over a prolonged period between 2024 and 2026. The accused initially approached the victim under the guise of providing medical help and collected money from him on various occasions in the name of treatment. Subsequently, three women among the accused allegedly threatened to file a molestation case against the elderly businessman and have him sent to jail, thereby extorting large sums of money from him.
Later, some of the accused allegedly posed as police personnel and met the victim, threatening him with arrest and death unless he paid more money. Fearing social humiliation and damage to his reputation, the businessman continued to pay the extortion amount. However, when the accused demanded an additional ₹1.5 crore, the victim confided in his friend and, along with him, approached the police station to lodge a complaint.
Further investigation is underway and efforts to nab the accused are ongoing.
