Mumbai Local Train Shocker: Elderly Man Makes Obscene Gestures at Woman; Kurla Railway Police Launch Hunt for Accused
A shocking incident of molestation has come to light during a local train journey between Dadar and Mulund, where an elderly man travelling in the handicapped coach allegedly made obscene gestures at a woman travelling in the ladies’ compartment. Based on the woman’s complaint, the Thane Railway Police have registered a case of outraging modesty against an unidentified elderly man. As the accused fled from Mulund railway station, railway police have launched a special operation to trace and arrest him with the help of CCTV footage.
According to police, the complainant had arrived at Dadar railway station on Tuesday and boarded a local train bound for Thane, travelling in the ladies’ compartment. The handicapped coach was adjacent to the ladies’ compartment. While the woman was using her mobile phone, her attention was drawn towards the handicapped coach shortly before the train reached Mulund station. She noticed an elderly man standing there who allegedly made obscene gestures at her, attempting to outrage her modesty.
As soon as the train reached Mulund station, the woman went towards the handicapped coach to confront the accused, but he had already fled from the spot. Later, after alighting at Thane railway station, she approached the railway police and narrated the incident, following which a complaint was registered.
Taking serious note of the complaint, the railway police registered a case under relevant sections for outraging the modesty of a woman. As the incident occurred between Dadar and Mulund, the investigation was later transferred to the Kurla Railway Police. After registering the offence, the Kurla Railway Police seized CCTV footage from the railway stations and surrounding areas and began tracing the accused.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused alighted at Mulund railway station and escaped by taking advantage of the crowd. Police efforts are underway to establish his identity. Officials have stated that the accused will be arrested soon.
