Mumbai Metro Line 3 Extends Operating Hours

Meanwhile, Mumbai Metro Line 3 has announced extended operating hours on Thursday to support the movement of cricket fans travelling to South Mumbai for the high-stakes ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final between the India national cricket team and the England cricket team at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. With a huge turnout anticipated for the crucial encounter, the Aqua Line’s revised schedule is aimed at ensuring smoother travel, reducing pressure on road networks, and offering spectators a quick, air-conditioned and dependable transport option on match day.

The match is set to start at 7 pm and is likely to attract a packed stadium, leading to significant commuter movement across South Mumbai. In response, metro authorities have planned additional services in both directions throughout the day and late into the night, with operations continuing until 11:59 pm to accommodate the surge in passengers heading to and from the stadium.

The underground corridor, operated by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation, stretches 33.5 km from Cuffe Parade to Aarey Colony and features 27 stations linking major business districts and residential areas. Key stops such as Churchgate railway station, Vidhan Bhavan, Hutatma Chowk, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus provide convenient connectivity to the stadium precinct. For spectators heading to Wankhede, the B2 entry-exit gate at Churchgate station is the closest access point.

In a major relief for fans attending the night fixture, the last metro service from Churchgate station has been extended until 11:59 pm on March 5. This arrangement ensures that spectators can leave the stadium after the match without rushing and travel back home comfortably.

Authorities have urged commuters to plan their trips ahead of time, reach stations early to avoid peak-hour crowds, and use metro services for a smoother and safer journey. The extended services are part of broader transportation arrangements put in place to handle the heavy turnout expected for one of the city’s biggest sporting events.
