Mumbai Metro Line 9 Start Date: Red Line Between Dahisar East and Mira Road Likely to Open on This Day

Metro Line 9, connecting Dahisar East to Mira Road, and the first phase of Metro Line 2B, between Mankhurd and Chembur, have received final approval from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS). With the safety certification in place, commercial operations on both lines can now begin. The new metro services are expected to open to the public in the first or second week of February 2026.

The first phase of Metro Line 9 is 4.5 kilometres long, running from Dahisar East to Kashigaon (Mira Road). It includes four stations: Dahisar, Pandurangwadi, Miragaon and Kashigaon. This line is an extension of the existing Metro Line 7, which connects Dahisar East to Andheri East.

The opening of this corridor will ease traffic congestion at the Dahisar Checknaka and on the Western Express Highway. It will also allow passengers travelling to Mira-Bhayander to reach Andheri East without changing trains at Dahisar.

Metro Line 2B: New Connectivity for the Eastern Suburbs

Along with Line 9, the first phase of Metro Line 2B has also received safety clearance. This 5-kilometre stretch runs from Mandale in Mankhurd to Diamond Garden in Chembur. It has five stations and will provide better connectivity to the Mankhurd railway station.

Although the section has been ready for months, its opening was delayed due to pending safety approvals and other technical issues. Once operational, this line will also activate the Mandale Depot, which is essential for maintaining several other metro lines.

Preparations and Possible Inauguration Date

According to Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) sources, deployment and staff training for both lines are in the final stages. While the official opening date has not been announced, there is speculation that both lines will be inaugurated together in early February, depending on the schedules of the Chief Minister and other ministers.

Background and Future Plans

The final target for Metro Line 9 is to extend the route to Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium in Bhayander, covering a total of eight stations. Construction of the remaining section is expected to be completed within the next six months. The expansion of Mumbai’s metro network is seen as a major step towards strengthening public transport and reducing reliance on private vehicles.
