Housing Relief for 663 Families as MHADA Completes Patra Chawl Lottery

Mumbai– The 15-year-long wait for ownership of home finally ended for 663 members of the Siddharth Nagar (Patra Chawl) Co-operative Housing Society in Goregaon (West) as the Mumbai Housing and Area Development Board (MHADA) successfully conducted a computerized lottery for the allotment of rehabilitation tenements today. The draw, held under the redevelopment project at Plot No. R-9 marked a significant milestone in the long-delayed housing scheme.

The lottery event took place at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Hall in Goregaon (West) under the chairmanship of Mr. Milind Borikar, Chief Officer of the Mumbai Board. Utilizing the Randomized Allotment of Tenement (RAT) system, MHADA ensured a transparent and systematic allocation process, assigning building numbers, wings, and floors to eligible members without human intervention.

Speaking at the event, Borikar reaffirmed that MHADA’s computerized lottery system is fully transparent and free from manipulation. "As a government undertaking, we strictly adhere to prescribed procedures and government-approved methods for allotment," he emphasized.

Adding to the project’s benefits, he announced that MHADA’s Vice President and CEO, Mr. Sanjeev Jaiswal, has approved the installation of a solar power system for the society, with planning already underway. Additionally, MHADA will provide gym equipment to enhance the society's fitness center.

The project was granted its Occupancy Certificate (OC) on April 1, 2025. While regulatory norms (DCPR) required 412 parking spaces, MHADA has ensured 686 dedicated parking spots—one per tenement.

To further support residents, Mr. Borikar announced that any structural repairs within one year of possession will be addressed free of cost by MHADA-appointed contractors. Furthermore, despite possession beginning this month, rent compensation will continue until May 2025. Since January 2018, MHADA has disbursed ₹129 crore in rent compensation to eligible members.

Lottery Results & Possession Process

Following the computerized draw, results were displayed on notice boards at the venue and will be accessible on MHADA’s official website (mhada.gov.in) after 6 PM today.

All 663 beneficiaries will begin receiving possession letters and keys from April 7, 2025, at the MHADA headquarters in Bandra East (Executive Engineer, Goregaon Division, Mumbai Board). Beneficiaries must present a valid government identity card, such as Aadhaar, during the handover process.

With this long-awaited redevelopment now reaching completion, the Siddharth Nagar housing project stands as a testament to government-led urban renewal and housing security in Mumbai.
