In a shocking incident raising concerns over law and order in the financial capital, a police constable’s motorcycle was allegedly stolen from outside a police office building in Mumbai’s Byculla area.
The complainant, Sunil Sakharam Patane (50), a constable with Mumbai Police currently posted at the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-03) office located in Nishchay Building at Byculla East, has lodged an official complaint at Byculla Police Station regarding the theft.
According to information received, Patane resides with his family at Lower Parel and had been using a black and red Bajaj Discover motorcycle, a 2008 model, for his personal use.
As per the complaint, Patane was granted 15 days of earned leave on May 2, 2026, at around 7 pm. Before leaving for his native place, he had securely parked and locked his motorcycle on the footpath outside Nishchay Building, his workplace in Byculla East.
However, when he returned to duty on May 19, 2026, at around 9 am after completing his leave period, he was shocked to find that the motorcycle was missing from the designated parking spot.
After noticing the vehicle missing, the constable searched the surrounding area and checked among other parked vehicles but could not locate it. He later approached the traffic police chowky at S Bridge under Byculla Division to verify whether the motorcycle had been towed for no-parking violations or any other reason. However, officials there informed him that no such vehicle had been brought in.
Following an extensive search and finding no trace of the motorcycle, the complainant suspected that an unidentified thief had taken advantage of his absence and stolen the vehicle. The estimated value of the stolen motorcycle is said to be around Rs 15,000.
Based on Patane’s complaint, Byculla Police have registered a case against an unidentified person and initiated further investigation. Police are also examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the accused and trace the stolen motorcycle.
