Mumbai Police Trace All Missing Children Aged 0-5 in 2026; 99% Recovery Rate Achieved in 2025
The Mumbai Police have once again demonstrated their commitment towards tracing missing children. After safely reuniting 2,165 out of 2,182 missing children (99%) in 2025, the department has continued its strong performance in 2026.
According to official data, from January 2026 till date, all seven children in the 0–5 age group reported missing have been successfully traced and reunited with their families, achieving a 100 per cent recovery rate in this category.
A senior Mumbai Police officer stated that cases involving very young children are treated with “extremely high priority,” which has resulted in a 100 per cent success rate in this age group.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Satyanarayan Chaudhary said that missing cases involving small children are handled on an urgent basis, ensuring swift action and maximum coordination across units.
In the initial months of 2026, a total of 178 minors have been reported missing. Of these, 161 children have been traced so far, while 17 minors — including eight boys and nine girls — remain untraced. All of the missing children fall in the 16–18 years age bracket.
Special teams have been deployed across the city to trace the remaining minors. Highlighting the seriousness of the department’s approach, officials revealed that in one case, a single child was traced and brought back home three to four times after repeatedly running away. Each time, the police registered the case as per procedure and ensured the child’s safe recovery.
To streamline investigations, the police department has classified missing children cases into five age categories: 0–5 years, 5–10 years, 10–14 years, 14–16 years, and 16–18 years.
In 2025, a total of 2,182 missing children cases were registered, out of which 2,165 were successfully solved. Among the recovered children, 55 per cent were boys and 45 per cent were girls.
Currently, three to four dedicated teams are actively working in different parts of the city. The department aims to trace the remaining 17 minors at the earliest and reunite them safely with their families.
