Mumbai Rains: Unseasonal Rainfall Lash Parts of City, IMD Issue Yellow Alert for City, Thane

Unseasonal rainfall reported in several parts of Mumbai in early hours of Tuesday, January 27, promoting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issued an nowcast warning for Mumbai and surrounding districts, including Thane predicting more showers in the next three hours. 

IMD warned residents of unseasonal rains in Mumbai and Thane at 7 am. The weather department advised residents to take necessary precautions. Rainfall during peak hours shock early morning travellers and office goers.

Drizzle reported in Mumbai suburbs, including in Borivali, Dahisar, Kandivali, Malad, Andheri, Powai, Kurla and Ghatkopar.

Several parts of Thane, Navi Mumbai, Nandurbar and Raigad reported heavy morning showers, including Bhiwandi which led to a drop in minimum temperature. Heavy rainfall recorded at around 6.50 am in Bhiwandi area. Unseasonal rains lashed Raigad district around 4 am. Heavy rains lashed Johe and Hamrapur areas of Pen taluka.

The weather department predicted the day temperature of around 29 degrees Celsius and the night temperature to remain chilled at around 16 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.  

According to weather experts, the low pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal is causing humid winds. This has affected the weather of Maharashtra. Due to this change, the minimum temperature has increased and the chilling cold has subsided for now. It is expected that the same weather will continue for the next 24 hours.
