Mumbai Road Accident: 80-Year-Old Woman Dies After Being Hit by Speeding Tempo; FIR Registered
A tragic road accident has been reported from the Sayani Road area of Mumbai, where an 80-year-old woman died after being hit by a speeding tempo. The deceased has been identified as Nalini Mayekar. Her son, Vikas Mayekar (61), has lodged an FIR against the tempo driver for rash and negligent driving causing death.
According to police, Vikas Mayekar, a resident of Dombivli, informed authorities that his mother was residing alone in a society at Khed Galli in Prabhadevi. The incident occurred on February 6, 2026. At around 11:30 am, Nalini Mayekar was crossing the road near Gopinath Chavan Chowk on Sayani Road when a tempo allegedly hit her.
She was immediately rushed to KEM Hospital, where doctors found that she had sustained severe injuries to her head and the right side of her body. She was undergoing treatment for five days; however, she succumbed to her injuries at 9:10 pm on February 11, 2026.
During inquiries conducted by the family in the area, the registration number of the tempo involved in the accident was confirmed. Vikas Mayekar has alleged that the driver was driving at a high speed and in a negligent manner, which led to the fatal accident.
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS Act and have launched a search for the absconding driver.
