Mumbai Road Accident: Woman Killed, Two Injured After Speeding Car Hits Auto in Chembur; Driver Absconds
A 35-year-old woman was killed and two others were injured after a speeding car rammed into an auto-rickshaw in Chembur on Monday morning. The deceased has been identified as Hafiza Baba Sheikh, while the injured include 65-year-old Chandbi Hussain Sheikh and rickshaw driver Virendrakumar Bhagwati Prasad.
According to police, the accident took place around 7:45 am near the Amar Mahal Bridge descent on the Eastern Express Highway at Postal Colony in Chembur. The injured are currently undergoing treatment at Rajawadi Hospital.
Virendrakumar Prasad, a native of Uttar Pradesh and currently residing in Shivajinagar, Govandi, was waiting for passengers at Bainganwadi signal on Monday morning when two women boarded his rickshaw, heading towards Swami Pramukh Hospital in Chunabhatti.
As the rickshaw approached the Amar Mahal Bridge slope, a speeding car coming from behind rammed into it with great force. All three occupants of the rickshaw sustained serious injuries in the impact.
On receiving information, Nehrunagar police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Rajawadi Hospital, where doctors declared Hafiza Sheikh dead on arrival. The other two victims are undergoing treatment.
Both Hafiza Sheikh and Chandbi Sheikh are residents of Bainganwadi in Govandi.
Based on the complaint of the rickshaw driver, police have registered a case against the unidentified car driver for causing death due to negligence and injuring two persons. The accused fled the scene without providing medical assistance or informing the police.
Nehrunagar police have launched a manhunt for the absconding driver and are scanning CCTV footage from the area to trace the vehicle and Accused, officials said.
