A speeding car driven recklessly during a police naka bandobast caused chaos in the Marine Drive area in the early hours of Thursday, leaving a traffic police personnel seriously injured. The accused driver has been detained by the police.
According to police sources, a naka bandobast was underway on NS Road near the InterContinental Hotel under the jurisdiction of the Marine Drive police station at around 2.30 am. During the checking, a white car approached the spot at high speed. The vehicle was being driven by 28-year-old Harish Faizal Khan.
Due to loss of control, the car rammed into the barricade placed on the road. The impact was so severe that traffic police constable Samadhan Wagh, who was standing on the other side of the barricade, was knocked down. He sustained serious head injuries. Fellow policemen immediately rushed him to Bombay Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Doctors have stated that his condition is stable.
Following the incident, the Marine Drive police detained and arrested the car driver. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections for rash and negligent driving and for attacking a government servant while on duty.
