24-Hour Water Cut for Mulund, Bhandup and Thane
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a significant 24-hour water supply disruption affecting parts of the eastern suburbs and neighbouring Thane city. The shutdown is scheduled to commence at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 27 , and will continue until 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 28.
The disruption is primarily due to two major technical projects. In Mulund (West), engineers will shift 12 water connections from the existing 2,400 mm diameter Vaitarna main canal to the larger 2,750 mm diameter Upper Vaitarna canal. This upgrade is expected to enhance the long-term pressure and reliability of the supply network.
Simultaneously, in the Bhandup area, the BMC will carry out repair work at Khindipada, which involves installing an iron protective cover on the 2,400 mm diameter water main. These works are part of a broader initiative to modernise Mumbai’s ageing water infrastructure.
Affected Areas
T Ward (Mulund West): Key affected pockets include Amar Nagar, Panchsheel Nagar, Hanumanpada, Mulund Vasahat, Swapnanagari, Veena Nagar, Yogi Hill, and Valley Nagar. Supply will also be hit along LBS Marg, Dr R.P. Road, P.K. Road, and the Mulund-Goregaon Link Road.
S Ward (Bhandup West): Both Lower and Upper Khindipada areas will face a complete shutdown.
Thane City: Residents in Kisan Nagar (East and West) and the Bhatwadi area will also experience dry taps as these zones depend on the BMC’s Vaitarna network.
The civic body has urged citizens to store sufficient water in advance and use their reserves judiciously during the repair window.
