A major water supply disruption is set to affect several parts of South Mumbai on Thursday after a significant leak was detected in a key water pipeline near Famous Studios in Worli late on Wednesday night. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said the damaged 1,650-mm diameter water main was immediately shut down to avoid further water loss and to allow urgent repair work. Areas including Byculla, Worli, Mumbai Central, Grant Road, Lower Parel, Malabar Hill, Pedder Road, Girgaon, and Mazgaon are expected to face a complete water shutdown or low-pressure supply throughout the day. Civic officials stated that repair operations are currently underway on an emergency basis.
The BMC stated that the affected pipeline supplies water to several major civic wards, including G South, D, and E wards, which cover densely populated residential and commercial zones in South Mumbai. Authorities confirmed that water supply has been suspended for May 7 in the impacted areas due to the ongoing repairs. The disruption will also affect important public institutions and hospitals such as Kasturba Hospital, Nair Hospital, and the Dhobighat area in Mahalaxmi. Officials urged residents to use water carefully until normal supply resumes. This is the second major water cut in Mumbai within a week, following earlier shutdowns linked to water channel commissioning and chlorination works.

In E Ward, the supply has been completely stopped in areas like Agripada, Kamathipura, B J Marg, Sane Guruji Marg, Maulana Azad Road, and roads surrounding Kasturba and Nair Hospitals. In G South Ward, localities including J R Boricha Road, Dhobighat, and surrounding Mahalaxmi and Lower Parel areas will remain affected until repair work is completed.
