Nagpur, June 18

The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court on Friday had asked the state government to file a reply about the measures being taken by them for conservation of heritage Ramtek Gad Mandir by July 14.

The matter was heard before Justices duo Sunil Shukre and Anil Kilor. A public interest litigation (PIL) is pending in the court in this regard. Considering the need for conservation of the Ramtek Gad Mandir the court itself has filed the petition in 2010. Hundreds of devotees visit the temple every day. However, the temple still lacks the necessary facilities. Due to lack of proper maintenance, the ancient buildings here are being damaged.

Many people have encroached upon the temple premises. due to which the beauty of the temple is being tarnished. The temple does not get any financial income from the shopkeepers in the temple area.

Therefore, there is an urgent need to regulate the shopkeepers and chalk out proper rules and terms and conditions. To enter the temple, one has to cross four entrance gates Varaha, Shirpur, Bhairav and Gokul.

The condition of these entrances is not good. At the foothill of the Gad Mandir there are 1500 year old temples of Rudra Narasimha and Keval Narasimha. They have historical significance. But, there are several complaints that these temples are not being maintained. Senior counsel Adv Anand Jaiswal is a friend of the court. Adv Mahesh Dhatrak represented Ramtek Municipal Council during the proceedings.
