At least 11 workers were shifted to a hospital after a massive explosion at a chemical factory in the industrial development area in Bollarum on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Saturday, officials said. Several others are injured and many are feared trapped, they added.Four fire engines were rushed to the spot as thick fumes were seen billowing after the explosion inside Vindhya Organics, Sangareddy divisional fire officer V Srinivas said. Workers were seen running due to the chaos caused by the explosion.

“The fire erupted in the factory supposedly due to the explosion of a reactor. We are trying our best to prevent the fire from spreading to other areas,” he told reporters, adding that the situation inside the factory couldn’t be ascertained immediately as it was difficult to enter premises. “We are making attempts to go in while dousing fire gradually,” he said. Officials said that it is not exactly known yet how many workers were there inside the factory. The company authorities are examining the duty chart to find out the exact number.
